The spirit of competition found its way into the hearts of community members as the South Shore Community Action Council hosted its 1st Annual "March Mania Food Drive Challenge," ending with law enforcement taking home not just the winnings, but the satisfaction of contributing to a noble cause. In the charitable event, Sheriff McDonald's team emerged victorious, claiming the John van Hengel Championship trophy after collecting a staggering 6,435 items to aid those in need.

According to the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department, Sheriff McDonald expressed a poignant blend of pride and humility: "I’m not only proud but humbled by the generosity of our staff who see hardship firsthand and always step up to help." The total of donations made by his team during the March food drive will translate into meals for 5,262 children, seniors, and families across the region.

Collectively, the initiative was an undeniable success, with more than 16,000 pounds of food collected, culminating in nearly 12,000 meals prepared for the less fortunate, as per the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department. The food drive saw vigorous participation from various organizations, all contributing to this feat of community support and solidarity.

Congratulatory remarks were extended by Sheriff McDonald not only to his staff but to all who participated. He shared a heartfelt sentiment saying, "I am blessed to run this agency, and no blessing is perfected until it is shared." This statement was accompanied by thanks to the SSCAC Board of Directors, master of ceremonies, Representative Matt Muratore, and State Rep. Kathy LaNatra for their involvement and support in the drive's successful execution.
