An armed robbery incident in Dorchester led to the arrest of Jose Ramirez-Martinez early this morning, according to a statement by the Boston Police Department. Ramirez-Martinez, 38, is now facing charges after allegedly robbing and assaulting a victim with a pistol in the vicinity of 535 Columbia Road.

Ramirez-Martinez is accused of pointing a firearm at the victim and demanding cash, escaping with approximately $140 before striking the victim with the weapon. In response to the emergency call at 12:36 AM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) quickly moved to swiftly investigate the reported crime. The victim, whose injuries are reported as non-life-threatening, was transported to a local hospital after Boston EMS provided medical assistance at the scene.

Police officers canvassing the area were provided with a description of the assailant. They observed an individual matching the description near 471 Columbia Road. Upon approaching, Ramirez-Martinez reportedly surrendered without incident, raising his hands as the officers exited their cruiser, leading to a peaceful arrest.

Following a positive identification, Ramirez-Martinez was arrested and charged with armed robbery. "Officers were able to positively identify the suspect and he was taken into custody," according to the Boston Police Department report. He is slated to to appear in Dorchester District Court for his arraignment, where the charges against him will formally be presented.
