Firefighting crews from multiple agencies, including those from Del Mar, San Diego, Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, and CAL FIRE, responded swiftly to a brush fire on Tuesday that came dangerously close to residential areas adjoining the Torrey Pines State Reserve Extension near Del Mar Heights School, the City of Del Mar reported.

The blaze, which ignited within the state park, burned through 19 acres but remarkably, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the multiple agencies and their aerial support, did not cause any injuries or damage to structures. The crews, however, will remain vigilant to ensure the blaze is fully contained and that the residents of Mira Montana who had been evacuated can safely return to their homes.

As the inferno raged, officials did not take any chances, promptly initiating evacuations for homes on Mira Montana and dispatching an evacuation warning for the broader area encapsulated by Del Mar Heights Road, 11th Street, Interstate 5, and Camino Del Mar, an evacuation center also promptly sprang up at the Del Mar Fairgrounds to accommodate those displaced.

Though the threat loomed large, the conflict between nature's fury and human habitation ground to a halt by late afternoon of the same day, with the fire's forward march effectively stopped. Even as Del Mar's fire engine took a stand, pumping water from its cannon to fortify the homes on Mira Montana from the encroaching flames, authorities are looking into the cause of this disruptive fire.
