Westview High's Head Football Coach Resigns Amid Assault Allegations During CampSource: Google Street View

The head football coach at Westview High School, Jamal Jones, has resigned from his position following allegations of assaulting players during a summer football camp. KATU reports that Jones's resignation was made effective immediately on Wednesday, as announced in an email by the school's principal. In addition to his resignation, Jones is on administrative leave from his role at the Hillsboro Police Department.

This development comes after the McMinnville Police were dispatched for a welfare check at Linfield University at around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The camp, which had begun on Saturday, culminated in an incident on its last day involving Jones allegedly waking up players by slapping and shaking them, as per KGW. These allegations have led to an investigation to ascertain if any criminal offenses occurred.

According to a Westview High School player's account, the incident involved Jones aggressively removing blankets from players and striking them. As detailed by KPTV, "He started off with four of my teammates," one Westview high school football player said. "He threw off their blankets and started hitting them, and then he jumped on top of one." The student elaborated that the severity of the incident escalated as it progressed.
