A tragic car accident in Del Mar has resulted in felony charges for a woman involved in the fatal incident. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred late Tuesday evening, just before the clock struck midnight on the 2000 block of Coast Boulevard.

Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station arrived on the scene to discover that a 2019 Maserati Gran Turismo had violently collided with a tree and a parked Dodge Ram. Inside Turismo, they found a 62-year-old man in the passenger seat. Despite receiving immediate life-saving measures, the man was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, no bystanders were injured, and the Dodge Ram was unoccupied at the time of the deadly encounter.

The next of kin are pending notification as the County Medical Examiner's Office undertakes the somber task of positively identifying the deceased and determining the specific cause and manner of his passing. Deputies investigating the crash have ascertained that the Maserati was in motion northward on Coast Boulevard when it veered off the road, resulting in the fatal collision.

The driver of the Maserati, Elizabeth Brooks- Fratus, fled the scene following the crash but was later apprehended. She is currently at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla receiving care for her injuries sustained in the mishap. Upon her release, she faces booking at Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility with charges that include felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and DUI-related offenses.
