Following up on last year's fatal shooting at Forum Park Drive, police have now apprehended and charged 40-year-old Juan Manuel Estrada with murder. Estrada, linked to the death of Michel Cangas Rojas, also 40, turned himself over to Houston police, leading to a significant breakthrough in a case that had been cold for months, as disclosed in a news release from the City of Houston.
Estrada's arrest sprang from a voluntary surrender at the HPD Edward A. Thomas Building, where he sought out homicide detectives and confessed to shooting Rojas, his neighbor, multiple gunshot wounds were found on Rojas' body sitting in his car in the apartment complex parking lot on the morning of February 18, 2023, which led to his untimely demise, the Houston Fire Department pronounced him deceased at the scene, according to the City of Houston news release.
When the case first emerged, no witnesses or suspects had been identified. Details from the case indicate that the quick response of the HPD patrol officers and the persistent investigation by Sergeant M. Cass and Detective J. Campbell of the HPD Homicide Division played a key role in the arrest.
Following Estrada's confession, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office stepped in, charges were filed, Estrada was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail.
