The Lower Haight of Yesteryear, Part Three
Way back in April 2010, we brought you parts one and two of our "Lower Haight of Yesteryear" series -- our most popular stories ever! Today we present part three -- a smaller but still-potent set of then-and-now photos from around the neighborhood.

This set debuted at our Haighteration in 3D pop-up shop last week, but we wanted to make sure those of you who couldn't make it still got to enjoy 'em! So, here you go! Note: All old-timey photos courtesy of the California Historical Society and the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley. The rest are Haighteration's. Also, click on any photo to view a larger version in a new window.
Fillmore, north toward Haight, August 1928 vs. February 2011

Page, east toward Fillmore, March 1923 vs. February 2011

Haight, east from Steiner, September 1906 vs. February 2011

Scott, north at Waller, August 1925 vs. February 2011

Duboce, west from Market, April 1906 vs. February 2011

Waller, west at Fillmore, September 1926 vs. February 2011

Finally, pop-up attendee Bruce F. made a keen observation about that last old-timey photo at Waller and Fillmore. The corner spot, current home of Thep Phanom, used to house a business called M.J.B. Coffee. The name "Haighteration," of course, comes from a Mary J. Blige song. Coincidence???

That's it for this edition! See you next time for part four?
