A notice sent to nearby residents last week reveals progress on the reconstruction of 491-499 Haight Street, and plans for the building's future.

The building, of course, was badly damaged in a fire on September 26th, 2011. Since then, the structure has been wrapped in white plastic as crews work on gutting the interior and razing the top floor. According to the notice, the current plans for the building involve:

• Expanding existing retail (Walgreens) by 453 square feet
• Eliminating one of three entry storefronts on Fillmore Street
• Expanding existing stairs and adding new decks on the second and third floors into the rear yard

The number of "dwelling units" would remain the same, at 22. The notice, required by the San Francisco Planning Department for projects that meet certain criteria, is meant to help project sponsors discuss and review their plans with "adjacent neighbors and neighborhood organizations" before pursuing applications with the City. As such, the building's owner, Flynn Investments, and architects Michael Harris Architecture, will hold a neighborhood meeting this Monday, February 13th, at 6pm to discuss their plans. The meeting will take place at the construction site, at the corner of Haight and Fillmore. It's not clear from the notice which Fillmore Street storefront would be eliminated, nor what the timeline is for the project.
