55 Laguna LGBT Housing Project Gets Fundingsfplanning.org
The housing development at Haight and Laguna is one step closer to reality -- and the mural one step closer to demolition -- thanks to the influx of some crucial new funding.

On Friday, the Mayor's office announced $6.1 million for a new entity called the Housing Trust Fund, which will provide backing for the two non-profits building 110 units of LGBT-friendly senior housing at 55 Laguna. This new funding will also make it easier for the non-profits, Mercy Housing and Openhouse, to secure federal funding and tax credits. Though 55 Laguna has been in the works for years, it was only officially approved in August by the Planning Commission after various iterations, hearings, and appeals. With this funding secured, construction is now expected to begin some time in early/mid-2013.
