Haight Street Fire Displaces Eight [Updated]Haighteration reader Lawrence L.
Scroll to the bottom for updates A 2-alarm fire broke out around 11:40pm tonight in the rear of a building near 629 Haight Street, between Steiner and Pierce.

The cause of the fire, which has since been contained, is unknown at this time. A CBS news producer reports that 6 people were displaced, and firefighters mentioned that at least 5 adults required medical assistance, though we don't have any word on their conditions. We also don't know the status of any pets that may have been in the building. One woman we spoke with who fled from an adjacent unit expressed concern for her Siamese cats, who she believes may have still been inside. Here are some of our photos from the scene, as well as some submitted by readers and folks around the internet.
