Now In Hayes Valley: Scooter SharingFacebook/Scoot Networks
While we await the arrival of Bay Area Bike Share in Hayes Valley, there's another two-wheeled transit option in the neighborhood: scooter sharing.

Scoot Networks has established pods of rentable red electric scooters around the city, with a new location in Hayes Valley at the Performing Arts garage at Grove and Gough. There are two types of scooters available -- ones with top speeds of 30 MPH, which the company says don't require a motorcycle license to operate, and "super scoots" with top speeds of 60 MPH, which do require a motorcycle license. To rent a scooter, you first sign up for a Scoot account (there's a $10 signup fee), go through an orientation in which they teach you how to ride, and then rent your scooter. It's $5 for the first hour, and about $1 an hour after that. You just have to have a smartphone, be 21+, and have a clean driving record. And for a limited time, Scoot is offering Hayeswire readers a $10 riding credit. Just enter the code #HAYESWIRE when you sign up. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes!
