The family of a 77-year-old woman attacked in Chinatown on May 10th is asking for help in finding the Good Samaritan who assisted her, as well as any other witnesses.

The woman was exiting a Muni bus when a woman reportedly hit her at least twice on the head, according to the SFPD. A man helped her by moving her away from the side of the bus and into a seated position on the sidewalk, and investigators would like to speak with him or any other witnesses. The victim is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. (Update : The victim, identified as Lin Leung, has died of her injuries.)

The incident is believed to have taken place around noon–2:30pm in Chinatown, possibly on Stockton Street. the victim frequently rode the 2-Clement, 3-Jackson, 30-Stockton and 45-Union/Stockton buses, often between Japantown and Chinatown. Anyone with information is asked to email Sgt. Trevor Kelly at trevor [dot] kelly [at] sfgov.org, call the Anonymous Tip Line at (415) 575-4444, or text a tip to TIP411 and include "SFPD" at the beginning of the message.

This isn't the only attack on an elderly person in Chinatown in recent months. At 10:30pm on April 24th, a 72-year-old man was taking money from an ATM on Stockton near Green streets when two men approached him, pushed him and took the cash. The suspects fled on foot.

And there's been a pervasive trend of thieves ripping necklaces right off the necks of mainly older women. A 71-year-old woman was a recent victim as she arrived home in the 800 block of Washington Street at 10:30am April 20th and was getting her keys. The suspect approached her from behind, forcibly ripped off her gold necklace with a heart pendant and fled in an unknown direction. The victim suffered a scratch to her neck and refused treatment.

SFPD Central Station Capt. David Lazar said all of the necklace grab cases are assigned to investigators, who are following up.
