The Pit Stop Program's Next Pit Stop: Buena Vista ParkPhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline

Neighbors and parkgoers, rejoice: SF Public Works is opening a new Pit Stop at Buena Vista Park (specifically, at Haight Street and Buena Vista Avenue West) this coming Wednesday, June 15th.

The Buena Vista Pit Stop, a staffed public washroom, needle drop and dog waste disposal station, will be the Haight's second, after the permanent lavatory at Haight and Stanyan. It's the latest in a slew of efforts over the past months to clean up Buena Vista Park, including a new paint job, plantings and a round of tree trimming.

So far, the city has deemed the Pit Stops, which it began rolling out last year, a success. "We’re really excited to be expanding the program," said SF Public Works spokesperson Rachel Gordon in an email yesterday.

District 5 Supervisor London Breed announced the debut of the Buena Vista Pit Stop in her most recent newsletter. She says the portable toilets will be "trucked to and from the sites daily after overnight servicing at a remote location."

The new Pit Stop will be open Monday-Friday, 2-9 pm—shorter hours than the other Upper Haight location, at the JCDecaux toilet at Stanyan and Haight, which is staffed seven days a week from 9am-8pm.

The Upper Haight stop joins a citywide roster of Pit Stops: there are currently stops placed in the Castro, Tenderloin, SoMa, Mid-Market, Civic Center, and the Mission.
