The Parkside branch of the North East Medical Services clinic is planning a move to 3431 Taraval St. (between 44th and 45th Avenues) from its current location on 2308 Taraval (between 33rd and 34th Avenues).

The nonprofit has filed an application with the Planning Department to alter the existing site, previously the Nice Cleaners & Sewing Shop laundromat, which shut down in early 2016. The alterations would include adding a new floor to the current one-story building and making changes to the facade.

The move was confirmed by NEMS' chief financial officer, Johnson Wong. "Our lease [at 2308 Taraval] expires near the end of 2017," he explained. If construction is completed on schedule, NEMS hopes to move to the new site in late 2017.

NEMS is a non-profit medical clinic that primarily serves low-income and immigrant Asian residents of San Francisco, who can have difficulty accessing the local health care system due to low incomes and language barriers. The new clinic will offer the same services as the current location, including primary care, immunizations, and health screenings.

NEMS has clinics all around San Francisco, but in the past, some Outer Sunset merchants have objected to NEMS' expansion to commercial spaces, particularly on Noriega Street.
