The normally quiet Sunset District was rocked earlier today by a shooting that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy.

According to SFPD spokesperson Giselle Talkoff, the police responded to reports of a shooting near Sunset Boulevard and Kirkham Street around noon.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around 2:30pm. Police made the announcement after saying earlier that the teen's wounds were not life-threatening.

The victim may have been shot while driving, said SFPD.

The Examiner reports that the victim may have been driving a white sedan and that according to a witness, at least five rounds had pierced the driver's side.

A passenger sitting in the sedan was not injured.

Information on a suspect was not immediately available, but police have opened an investigation. We'll keep an eye out for further updates on this story.

Update, 5/2: The victim has now has been identified by the medical examiner's office as 15-year-old Daly City resident Reajohn Jackson.
