In 2015, Chilango, a popular taqueria at 235 Church St., closed its doors after failing to reach a lease agreement with its new landlords.
Vacant ever since, North Beach's Il Casaro Pizzeria recently announced plans to open its second location in the space.
Tablehopper reports that the menu will likely mirror that of the North Beach location, known for Neapolitan-style pies. But because the new space has a full kitchen and a larger oven, pastas will be added to the menu and there will be a larger selection of antipasti.
There is also a back patio that hadn't been used by the former tenants, which owners Francesco Covucci and Peter Fazio said they will develop for possible outdoor seating. The owners have applied for a liquor license to offer a full bar as well.
If things go according to plan, Il Casaro will open by December.
