A new coffee roastery and cafe has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Origins Coffee Roasters, the new arrival is located at 16390 Cleveland St.

While Origins shares ownership with neighboring cannabis shop Origins Cannabis, this coffee roastery isn't just targeted at those who toke. According to a press release, it aims to offer lavender lattes, "coco loco" mochas and other specialty drinks that are light on sugar and dairy, opting for organic honey simple syrup and hemp, soy and almond milk.

On the menu, customers will find a selection of six different house roasts, from the Hawaiian Harmony (with notes of butterscotch and cocoa) to the "floral and citric" Ecuador Pinchina Bourbon. Each coffee can be enjoyed as a pour-over or French press. Espresso drinks are made on a machine from Seattle-based Mavam, which the shop says offers precise temperature control.

With a three-star rating out of two reviews on Yelp so far, the fresh addition is still finding its footing.

Brian C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 7, wrote, "Owned by the same folks that operate Origins Cannabis and the hemp swag shop next door, Origins Cafe offers unique coffee roasts, custom tea blends and original drink recipes you won't find at your average coffee shop. I love the post-industrial decor, the tasteful music and attentive, informative service."

Yelper Linda F. was less impressed: “The coffee was good — thus my initial statement that there should be a line out the door. [But] hire people with good customer service skills and who look like they are there to work, and didn't stumble out from the marijuana shop next door."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Origins Coffee Roasters is open from 6 a.m.–5 p.m. on Monday-Saturday and 7 a.m.–3 p.m. on Sunday.
