Yesterday afternoon, Castro Indian restaurant Naan N Curry (4238 18th St., between Collingwood and Diamond) sustained a one-alarm fire in its kitchen vent.

SFFD spokesperson Jonathan Baxter says the fire was reported at approximately 4:24 p.m. Fire department crews quickly arrived on the scene, extinguishing the blaze by 4:38 p.m.

There were no injuries, and no one was displaced. Muni lines in the area were briefly affected by road closures, but quickly reopened once the fire was contained.

Hoodline spoke with Naan N Curry's Atique Resman, who confirmed the fire started in the restaurant's kitchen.

The restaurant suffered minimal damage, Resman says. They'll be closed for the next two to three days to clean up and assess what needs to be fixed.

Naan N Curry is located on the second story of the building, above Edel Custom Tailor. According to a sign in its window, Edel is closed for vacation from June 6-22. Hoodline reached out to Edel's owner to see if the business sustained any damage, but did not get a response.

Castro residents will recall Naan N Curry took over its space in 2017 from the previous occupant, Curry Boyzz.

It's currently located next to two vacant spaces: the demolished lot that will soon become Hotel Castro, and the now-closed Firewood Cafe. Neither sustained any damage in the fire.
