A new restaurant has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The newcomer to Piedmont Avenue, called Mägo, is located at 3762 Piedmont Ave.

As we reported in May, Mägo (Spanish for "wizard" or "magician") serves "simple food using innovative, inventive and high-quality ingredients" by chef Mark Liberman, who earned acclaim for his cooking at San Francisco's now-closed AQ.

According to its website, Mägo offers a new menu of small plates each week, all featuring seaso ingredients. The current menu features dishes like asparagus and burrata with warm chorizo vinaigrette, smoked cabbage okonomiyaki, and potato gnocchi with summer squash and pesto.

There's also one rotating large plate for groups — currently, it's a ribeye steak with spring vegetables and soy-honey glaze.

Mägo offers a full menu of beer, wine and cocktails, and also hosts culinary classes taught by Liberman and his wife Theresa, who's an expert on cheese.

With a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp so far, Mägo is on its way to developing a local fan base.

Yelper Jon K. wrote, "Refined, creative food, but not pretentious. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the cocktails are excellent."

And Logan N. wrote, "We had a few cocktails and some dinner. Really great innovative food and cocktails, plus warm and attentive service!"

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Mägo is open from 5–10 p.m. on Monday-Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)
