A new addition to Serra Mesa, Soup Du Jour is at 8583 Aero Drive. So far, it's been well-received: it's got a five-star rating out of nine reviews on Yelp. The spot specializes in soups made with seasonal produce, herbs and spices, such as corn chowder with clam, vegan borscht and chicken tortilla. It also offers salads, stews and small plates.
Blue Ocean Sushi
Blue Ocean Sushi is a Japanese/Asian fusion spot that recently opened at 1250 Prospect St. in La Jolla. Its menu includes a variety of specialty rolls, including albacore delight, crunch shrimp and lobster, as well as nigiri and black rice rolls.
Your Arsenal Barber Shop
Stop by 4570 30th St. in North Park and you'll find Your Arsenal Barber Shop. The business's mission statement on its website notes that its staff has "the know-how to execute your desired haircut or fixing you up with a proper straight razor shave, complete with a hot towel." The shop is open Tuesday-Saturday, and closed on Sunday-Monday.
Now open at 901 Bayfront Court in Core-Columbia is Layover, an outdoor bar and lounge at the InterContinental San Diego hotel. The spot, which is adjacent to the hotel's pool on a fourth-floor rooftop, offers canned craft beers and wines, along with slushy versions of classic, aero-inspired cocktails and light bites.
Adore You Esthetics
Adore You Esthetics is an eyelash-extension service that recently opened 3930 Oregon St., Suite 245, in North Park. The shop is the brainchild of Victoria Cartagena, a licensed esthetician and certified lash artist.
