A pedestrian is in life-threatening condition after a driver struck him with a car while crossing the street at 18th and Valencia streets.
The incident occurred last night, around 11:03 p.m. The victim, a 50-year-old man, was struck by a 31-year-old man. The victim was transported to a hospital.
Police said that the driver and the vehicle remained on scene and that the driver is cooperating with the investigation. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time, officials said Friday. They also added that no arrest has been made.
The intersection is identified as a high-injury corridor under the city's Vision Zero plan, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities in San Francisco by 2024.
Update 3/12: On Thursday, Walk SF said that the pedestrian has succumbed to his injuries. “Another precious life has been lost to all-too-frequent traffic crashes on our streets,” said Jodie Medeiros, executive director of Walk SF, in a statement. “This is the third person [in San Francisco] to be hit and killed walking in less than a month,” she added.
