His visit in Palo Alto on Monday starts with a stop at the Lucy Evans Baylands Nature Interpretive Center, one of San Francisco Bay's larger marshland preserves, to discuss his administration's efforts to combat climate change and protect the environment for future generations, including creating clean energy jobs. Alongside state, community, environmental justice, and youth leaders, President Biden aims to attract young voters by highlighting his climate change efforts and unveiling a $600 million funding package for projects intended to adapt to climate change and shield the power grid from extreme weather, such as wildfires and heavy rains, which have affected millions in recent years.
However, President Biden's Bay Area visit is not merely about the environment; according to Palo Alto Online, he will also attend fundraisers for his re-election campaign during this three-day stay. On Monday, two significant fundraisers are scheduled: one in Los Gatos co-hosted by Reid Hoffman, Shannon Hunt-Scott, and Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott, and another in Atherton, hosted by venture capitalist Steve Westly and philanthropist Anita Yu.
Additionally, as part of Biden's focus on climate change, he will announce the launch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) $575 million "Climate Resilience Regional Challenge," as per Palo Alto Online. This program will fund projects aimed at building the resilience of coastal communities to extreme weather (e.g., hurricanes and storm surge) and other climate change impacts (e.g., sea level rise, drought).
