After a successful completion of the first phase of the West Street Road Reconstruction project, the second phase has now begun, according to a recent Facebook post by the City of Naperville. As a result, traffic is now being redirected to the northbound side of the roadway while crews work on reconstructing the southbound side.

Initially announced by the City of Naperville's official publication, the reconstruction project aimed to improve West Street, particularly the section between Emerald Drive and Rickert Drive. The project's timeline was divided into two phases, and its expected completion remains slated for the end of September if weather permits and no unforeseen circumstances arise.

Phase one involved the reconstruction of the northbound side, temporarily moving north and southbound traffic to the southbound lane—all aimed at creating safer roads for the residents of Naperville. Now, phase two has begun, which means motorists should expect traffic redirected to the northbound side as the southbound side is reconstructed.

Lane closures and traffic shifts have been anticipated throughout the project's run, with traffic control devices in place to help direct travelers. This ongoing process requires motorists to exercise caution when driving through the area, especially while the project is in its final weeks.

As with any construction project, there are potential side effects to local residents, but the City of Naperville has taken steps to minimize disruptions. According to their website, some affected neighborhoods could experience short periods of inaccessibility; however, the city is working with the contractor to ensure mail delivery, garbage collection, and emergency services are not compromised during both phases of construction.
