Initially, the victim who made the 911 call, had earlier installed a tracking device on one of the stolen motorcycles. The device helped to trace the thieves, bringing attention to how technology can assist in recovery and perpetrator capture.
Surveillance video provided footage of the crime while it was occurring and one of the suspect's red Toyota Tacoma truck.
Using the tracker, officers located the stolen motorcycles on Veterans Boulevard in South San Francisco, which led to the suspects' arrest and return of the motorcycles to the original owner, according to the San Mateo Police Department. The quick work of San Mateo Police and their cooperation with South San Francisco law enforcement officials led to an efficient case closure.
Using GPS devices linked to smartphones, police officers can recover stolen vehicles faster, arrest suspects, and prevent further crimes, thereby enhancing public security.
