Von Erich Wrestling Legacy Grapples with Silver Screen Stardom and UTA Photographic TributeSource: WWE

The legendary Von Erich family, a dynasty in the realm of professional wrestling, is having their saga immortalized both on the silver screen and in a photographic exhibit at the University of Texas in Arlington. The family that once dominated the World Class Championship wrestling scene in the 1980s is the focus of the film "The Iron Claw", which is already getting a thumbs-up from pre-release screenings and will open on December 22. Meanwhile, UTA is tipping its hat to the wrestling legends with a collection of remarkable moments captured in time.

Running the World Class Championship Wrestling out of Dallas, Fritz Von Erich and his wrestling progeny Kerry, Kevin, Chris, Mike, and David became household names, their fame rising in part because of their classic throwdowns. With opponents like Chris Adams and the 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair, a specially crafted effect made for a dramatic chapter of wrestling history, as recounted in the new movie that stars heartthrob Zach Efron. According to FOX San Antonio, the film is set to show the highs and lows of the family's journey in the spotlight.

The exhibit, located in the UTA Central Library, is showcasing some of the most iconic and raw moments the Von Erichs experienced inside the ropes. A standout photo depicts a bloodied Kerry Von Erich in the midst of a heated exchange with Buddy "Jack" Roberts from the legendary Fabulous Freebirds. The feud between the Von Erichs and the Freebirds is considered one of the most memorable in wrestling history, inspiring fans with a legacy of brawls that still hangs heavy over the sport today.

Not only did the Von Erichs rule the ring with their fierce family dynamic, but they also engaged in some epic solitary battles, as Kerry did when he went toe to toe with Ric Flair during a match that had everyone on the edge of their seats at Texas Stadium in 1984. While it was actually supposed to be David Von Erich facing Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship that fateful day, with the untimely passing of David a few months earlier in Japan set the stage for Kerry to step in. The high stakes and the raw energy of the Texas crowd looking to witness history made the event monumental. FOX San Antonio recalls one of wrestling's most dramatic chapters as the Von Erichs continued to shape their indelible mark on the sport.
