In a bid to shore up defenses against real estate fraud, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price has mobilized a new initiative called the 'Real Estate Fraud Notification Program.' This progressive effort aims to shield homeowners from the surreptitious dealings that could strip them of their property without their consent.

Administered by the DA's Consumer Justice Bureau, the program functions simply: Once a property title is transferred and documents such as Grant Deed or Quitclaim Deed are logged at the Alameda County Clerk-Recorder Office, the system is to promptly send out a letter to alert the original owner of the change. Included in this correspondence, homeowners will find the first five pages of the document responsible for the notification, offering them the chance to review any unfamiliar transactions.

Homeowners caught off guard by such alerts can directly reach out to the Real Estate Fraud Unit of the District Attorney's Office, where the transgression will be thoroughly investigated. If illegitimacy is uncovered, the DA's office promises to pursue legal avenues to not only prosecute wrongdoers but to legally void the fraudulent transfer.

"The goal of this program is to protect the most valuable asset a person in Alameda County can have, and that’s their home," District Attorney Price stated in a press release. She outlined a stark reality where "white-collar thieves target the equity earned by seniors", most vulnerable to such scams due to the long-term ownership of their homes.

This new measure arrives amidst growing concerns over real-estate related crimes, which often go unnoticed until the damage is irreversible. By choosing to proactively stand guard over Alameda County's homeowners, especially the elderly, the DA's office is taking a significant stance against the specter of property theft that has haunted families for far too long.
