The Chicago Police Department’s 9th District Tactical Team, with a hand from their Strategic Decision Support Center, arrested a man for aggravated discharge of a firearm in the 800 block of West 48th Place on January 1.

The tactical response followed a call about gunshots in the area. According to the Chicago Police, their officers witnessed an individual, armed and emerging from a building with a rifle. With the scene rapidly evolving, and the smoke still hanging in the air, they managed to take the man into custody without further incident.

What the officers unearthed next added more layers to an already dangerous situation: an AR-15 style rifle, a pair of handguns, and roughly 40 grams of methamphetamine. The evidence was seized as part of the investigation.

The suspect's arrest was a collaborative effort hailed by the Chicago Police, including engagement from the community. "Great Job by the 9th District Tactical team, SDSC Room officers and the community for working with our officers to apprehend this offender safely," commended the CPD's social media shout-out.

The unidentified shooter now faces charges stemming from the incident.
