The Miami-Dade Police Department has launched a death investigation after a woman's body was found earlier today in a Southwest Miami-Dade field. Prompting law enforcement to cordon off the area, with detectives trying to determine if the victim, who suffered trauma that led to her death, was killed on site or elsewhere and subsequently left in the field, as reported by WSVN.

According to officials, the grim discovery was made near the intersection of Southwest 174th Terrace and 103rd Avenue, and the field was quickly enveloped by a large police presence, a sight captured by 7Skyforce's cameras from above, the site shut down traffic as investigators continued to scour the area for evidence and clues to what has occurred.

While police have not yet identified the deceased nor detailed the nature of the trauma that caused her death, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's office is set to conduct an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause and manner of death, this development comes as an MDPD spokesperson confirmed that the death is under investigation but refrained from classifying it as suspicious at this time, as per Local 10 News.

Amid the unfolding investigation, family members have relayed to Local 10 News that the woman, whose identity remains under wraps by authorities, was pregnant, homeless and had recently been released from jail, her body found shrouded by a tarp in a grassy section of West Perrine flanked by the somber visage of crime scene tape as the reality of her untimely demise sinks into the community fabric.
