San Diego Families to Access Affordable Tech at SDCOE-Hosted Event on February 10Source: San Diego County Office of Education

The San Diego County Office of Education, partnered with Computers 2 Kids, is hosting a drive-thru event on February 10 where families can nab used laptops and desktops for as little as $100, officials announced.

The event, set to take place at Canyon Hills High School, 5156 Santo Road, will run from 9 a.m. to noon, and those interested are urged to register by February 8 to secure a machine; however, walk-ups will also be accepted if enough computers remain. "This is a great partnership that helps SDCOE in its ongoing work to make sure every student has the opportunity and access to thrive," Dr. Paul Gothold, San Diego County superintendent of schools, told San Diego County Office of Education.

Each device comes with Windows, Microsoft Office, antivirus, and educational software preloaded, and families will also have the chance to sign up for internet access on-site; options that are helping to bridge the technology gap that leaves some students behind. Payment can be made through debit or credit cards, and yes, cold hard cash is still king, as it will be accepted too.

Aiding thousands since 2004, Computers 2 Kids has been a bulwark against the so-called digital divide turning that technological chasm into a mere crack as it equips low-income families with the tools to succeed in today's digital world, the partnership between SDCOE and the non-profit has come a long way and their latest event is poised to be yet another leap forward if their track record in bolstering educational equity is anything to go by.
