Garland Man Sentenced to 45 Years for Sexual Assault of Child Recorded During Plano Sleep StudySource: Collin County, Texas

In a damning verdict out of McKinney, Texas, a 45-year no-parole prison sentence has been slapped on a man caught on camera sexually assaulting an 11-year-old child, as per an announcement from District Attorney Greg Willis's office. Nathanael Lane, 42, of Garland, Texas, was found guilty of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, the Plano Police informed.

Lane was familiar with the victim and had been granted access to the child on multiple occasions, during one of these times, in July of 2022, he brought the child to a sleep study in Plano where the abuse was recorded. After the staff observed the assault, law enforcement was notified. Lane initially admitted to assaulting the victim during the sleep study and further confessed to multiple offenses over several months at his residence, this heinous crime string has now been brought to an end with the recent court ruling.

The victim courageously spoke out at the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County, sharing the abuse details with the help of Plano Police Department Detective Bryan Patten's investigation work. According to the official Collin County release, the jury delivered a verdict of guilt for Lane on a first-degree felony charge, which could carry a sentence between 5 to 99 years or life in prison; Judge John Roach Jr. decreed the 45-year sentence.

Willis praised the vigilance of the employees who recorded the crime and informed authorities as they “acted swiftly and responsibly,” adding, “Child sexual assaults often tragically unfold in the shadows, In a striking turn of events, this perpetrator's darkly evil actions were captured on video.” The Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Mollie Thompson and Wendy Correa handled the prosecution, alongside District Attorney Investigator Kim Voigt-Eanes, Victim Assistance Coordinator Melissa White, and Legal Secretaries Christy Ware and Jessica Ledbetter, ensuring that justice was served for the acts that Lane admitted to.
