A grim discovery at a Duncanville apartment complex as firefighters responding to a blaze uncovered a dead woman with a gunshot wound, authorities said Tuesday.

Shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday, Duncanville Police and Fire Departments were called to the scene of a structure fire at 611 Oriole Boulevard, where first responders found an unresponsive adult female in one of the apartments. The female was evacuated from the burning structure but was pronounced deceased at the site, according to the Duncanville Fire Department medics, per the City of Duncanville.

The Duncanville Police Department has since secured the area and initiated a full-scale inquiry, reaching out to neighbors and potential eyewitnesses as part of their investigative procedures. No other individuals were reported to be inside the apartment at the time of the incident, indicating a possibly isolated event.

With early evidence hinting at a standalone occurrence, the police have reassured the public that there is no wider danger, however, the investigation remains active, and a person of interest has been detained on unrelated charges as officers continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the death.
