The pursuit by the distraught mother came to a chilling point when Detectives allege that Baker handed Samples a gun, and he pointed it at the mother and attempted to shoot her but missed, he also tried to hit her with the car as he fled the scene, Walker County Detective Jonathan Camp relayed in a statement described by WVLT.

The couple’s flight culminated in Rutherford County, Tennessee, where they were apprehended by local authorities. “He pointed it at the mother and tried to shoot her but missed,” said Camp, noting the alleged aggression displayed by Samples during the kidnapping.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies were on high alert after being tipped that Samples might be in the vicinity they conducted a traffic stop near the Interstate 840 exit after spotting the vehicle, according to the official account as reported by WKRN. Initially detained on fugitive charges, Samples and Baker are scheduled for an extradition hearing on April 8. Meanwhile, the young boy was safely returned to family members, and Baker’s two other children, a 5-year-old daughter and a 6-month-old baby, have been entrusted to the Department of Children’s Services.

Furthermore, Samples is facing a spate of grave charges, including aggravated assault of the family violence act, kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, cruelty to children in the first degree directed at both his son and the boy’s sister, and home invasion of the first degree, relayed Detective Camp in details provided to local media. The children currently remain under the care of the family and the state as the legal proceedings continue.
