A brace of pet owners in Seattle have been left heartbroken and alerting others after separate coyote attacks in their neighborhoods left one dog dead and another injured. Christie White, a resident of Seattle, recounted a nerve-wracking encounter when a coyote attacked her 15-year-old dog, Suki, in her own backyard. The incident, which transpired in the early hours of February 8, left White's aging companion with four puncture wounds around his throat and a rush to the emergency room for life-saving surgery; she described hearing her dog's screams and finding him bloodied near her front door, according to KIRO 7 News.

In a similar vein, the Magnolia neighborhood has been facing its tribulations with coyote confrontations, one of which ended in tragedy for Magda Sedlik Nica whose mini Yorkie, May, was killed by a coyote right before her eyes, an ordeal that lasted mere seconds but will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on her heart, as per FOX 13 Seattle. Despite the nature of the wild running its savage course Sedlik Nica pleaded for a sustainable solution, hoping to protect other pets while also worrying about the increasing boldness of local coyotes.

Meanwhile, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is stepping up as the authority in these matters, suggesting best practices such as feeding pets indoors and ensuring any outdoor feeding is done during safer daylight hours—all to minimize the risk of unwanted wildlife encounters. The department is also the point of contact for reporting any suspected coyote-related disappearances of pets.

Yet, despite preventative advice, Sedlik Nica mourns, reflecting a somber note on the stark reality that no measure of caution could bring back her beloved May, she told FOX 13 Seattle.
