The initiative, which took place in western Boynton Beach at the future Green Cay Park site, marks an impetus toward addressing the growth and environmental concerns in the area. Officials gathered alongside community members for the ceremonious start with shovels in hand to pave the way for what is touted as a benchmark in resource management.
The pomp of the ceremony was mixed with purpose as speakers underscored the importance of this advancement, with Palm Beach County Mayor Maria Sachs expressing the necessity of protection for the region's natural resources. "We must protect our water," Sachs told the gathering, highlighting that the project not only demonstrates Florida's capabilities but is also a pledge to care for its water and wilderness. The project, benefiting from grants partly funded by the Florida State Department of Environmental Protection and the South Florida Water Management District, as well as funds secured by State Senator Tina Polsky and State Representative Kelly Skidmore during Florida’s 2023 Legislative Session.
