Texans are witnessing an unparalleled crackdown on illegal immigration as Governor Greg Abbott's initiative, dubbed Operation Lone Star, marks a substantial uptick in apprehensions and arrests along the southern border. The collaborative effort between the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas National Guard has become the bulwark in Texas's fight to stem the flow of illegal activities. As reported by gov.texas.gov, the operation has led to over half a million illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 41,500 criminal arrests, landing more than 36,900 felony charges.

With the federal government under scrutiny for its border policies, Operation Lone Star has taken a stand by seizing substantial quantities of illicit substances, including over 471 million lethal doses of fentanyl. The crackdown reflected Texas's response to what the governor's office deems a "refusal to secure the border" by the Biden Administration. The latest figures show the operation has also been involved in transporting migrants to various cities across the United States, resulting in over 12,500 migrants sent to Washington, D.C., and a staggering 42,000 to New York City. Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles have also become destinations for these migrants, cumulatively receiving tens of thousands of individuals under the operation’s broad umbrella.

The governor's office has made clear the initiative's stance, emphasizing that "every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation," according to their statement.
