Redmond Offers $1,500 Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship to Civic-Minded High School Seniors for 2024 ParadeSource: Redmond website

Redmond’s youth who've dedicated their time and effort to helping others have a shot at some dough and a dash of fame courtesy of the Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship now open for applications, the city announced. High school seniors with a robust track record of serving the community can vie for the $1,500 prize to use for their education, not to mention earning a spot in the limelight during the Derby Days Grand Parade on July 13.

Redmond Mayor Angela Birney praised the civic spirit of local teens, stating, "I am proud of how active and engaged the young people of Redmond are in their communities," as she highlighted this scholarship aligns with a broader ethos—volunteerism, according to city officials.

Now in its ninth year and presented by recycling and waste management juggernaut WM, the scholarship is yet another facet of the community-centric Derby Days event, which is steeped in traditions of giving back and public participation.

Yet, beyond the scholarship, Derby Days is a volunteer-driven affair, with residents pitching in to pull off a drone light show, managing a cornhole tournament, and lending supports with event setup and information booths they help with tear-downs, and they also conduct questionnaires, all funneling back to that central pillar of community engagement, the city's notification detailed.
