Woman Charged with Theft and Assaulting Police Canine After Incident in North Harris CountySource: Facebook/Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4

In a confrontation that escalated quickly, a woman was apprehended after tussling with a police canine and being hit with a Taser by the Constable's Office in north Harris County. The suspect, identified as Kourtney Russell, allegedly concealed products worth over $650 and walked past the registers without paying at a store on FM 1960.

Deputies from Constable Mark Herman's Office were summoned yesterday after the incident was reported. Subsequent to their arrival, the suspect had bolted and barricaded herself in a bathroom at another business, where she reportedly became combative. According to a Facebook post by the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office, Russell ignored repeated orders to surrender before a canine officer was deployed to retrieve her.

It was during this retrieval attempt that Russell is said to have physically assaulted the Constable Canine, resulting in a confrontation requiring the use of a deputy's Taser to safely detain her. Following the scruffle, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

"Kourtney Russell was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Theft and Interference with a Police Service Animal. Her total bond was set at $200.00 out of County Court 2," stated Constable Mark Herman. The condition of the police canine after the assault was not immediately clarified.
