A Brunswick man has died following an incident involving a Glynn County School Resource Officer, triggering a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe. The man, identified as Isaias Gomez Pena, 38, purportedly displayed signs of distress before the fatal interaction occurred.
According to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation press release, the School Resource Officer responded to a report of a distressed individual on South Port Parkway on Monday. The situation escalated, necessitating backup from additional law enforcement officers. It was during this encounter that officers recognized Pena was having a the medical emergency, which led to an immediate EMS call.
Despite the efforts of emergency medical technicians, Pena was pronounced dead after being transferred to Southeast Medical Hospital. The precise cause of death is undetermined, awaiting an autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner.
