A tragic mishap struck in the Columbia River Gorge when a young hiker lost her balance, and her life after plummeting from a cliff near the Oneonta Trail. According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), 22-year-old Elisha Angelic Macias, from Hillsboro, Oregon, was pronounced dead on the scene on Sunday afternoon following the calamitous incident.

It was around 4:20 p.m. when the MCSO deputies scrambled to the site post an emergency call, they discovered a fellow hiker desperately trying to resuscitate Macias. Despite the resolute efforts of Cascade Locks Fire & EMS, Macias's fate was sealed, and she was deemed deceased by 4:35 p.m. Macias, reportedly hiking with friends, had ventured alone off the beaten path – a decision that culminated in an estimated 50-60 foot fatal descent.

The tragedy has overshadowed the gorge's beauty, highlighting its dangers. MCSOSAR was quickly activated to retrieve Macias's body, while volunteers from Trauma Intervention Program Northwest supported her companions and those affected. The Sheriff's office reported that no one witnessed the fall, leaving the details of her tragic departure a mystery.
