Mesa Community Mourns 7-Year-Old Girl Killed in Driveway Accident, No Charges Against DriverSource: X/Mesa Police Dept.

A young girl's life was tragically cut short in a Mesa accident when she was struck by an F-150 while riding her scooter in an apartment complex driveway. The incident occurred near Broadway Road and Horne on the evening of May 23, as confirmed by the Mesa Police Department. Despite initial reports of a hit-and-run, subsequent investigations revealed the driver remained at the scene, unaware that he had hit the child until after parking his vehicle.

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the girl, age 7, was hit when the truck driver, blinded by the setting sun, turned into the multi-family home's driveway. "The vehicle drove to the back of the building and parked. When the driver walked to the front of the building, he noticed a little girl and her scooter lying in the driveway with injuries. The driver immediately called 911, unaware of what happened to her," Mesa Police detailed. The Mesa Police Department later ruled out both speed and impairment as factors in the accident.

Furthermore, the driver told 12News, expressing his devastation over the deadly accident. "It was the worst thing," a neighbor shared, echoing the sentiment of loss felt by those within the community. Onlookers remember the child as a regular sight in the complex, always playing with dolls or scooting around with friends.

The police conducted a thorough examination of the scene, aided by security camera footage. "This is believed to be a very tragic accident with no charges filed against the driver," the Mesa Police reaffirmed. Neighbors have extended an invitation to anyone wishing to mourn and honor the child's memory at the complex near 3rd Avenue and Horne Drive. As the investigation proceeds, the little girl’s name has yet to be released to the public.
