A teenage girl, identified as 19-year-old Selena Southerland, sustained a gunshot wound to the head in what appears to have been a road rage related shooting in Bedford County yesterday evening. As per the WSMV report, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. near Normandy Road and Highway 41a South.

Authorities are actively searching for a white SUV, believed to be a late 1990s or early 2000s model Saturn, driven by a male suspect who reportedly remains at large. The Bedford County Sheriff's Office detailed that the SUV was involved in a confrontation with a car carrying four teens, where the suspect allegedly shot at the victims through his car's back window. According to a WKRN report, the bullet went through both the rear window and the headrest before striking Southerland.

Details from WTVF reveal that the altercation began when the teen's vehicle was being tailgated by the SUV and subsequently braked suddenly, prompting an aggressive response from the SUV's driver. The situation escalated rapidly, culminating in the shooting. After the event, Southerland was able to speak with first responders before being flown to a hospital for treatment.

The current condition of Southerland has not been updated since the incident. Sheriff's deputies at the scene described the actions that led to the shooting, with one bullet penetrating the car's interior and striking Southerland in the head. "The bullet that hit her went through a window and headrest first which slowed it down enough to not kill her," the Bedford County Sheriff commented to WTVF. Investigators continue to appeal to the public for any information related to the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect.
