Tragedy struck when a Precinct 4 Constable Deputy was ambushed and gunned down during an attempted apprehension of a suspected robber. The series of events capsized into violence following robbery calls at two Academy stores, where an individual wielding an AR-15 rifle reportedly robbed the establishments. According to a Facebook post by Precinct 4, a Deputy Constable patrolling the area spotted the suspect's vehicle and engaged in pursuit after the suspect refused to pull over.

The chase came to a verbal standstill in the 5300 block of Slashwood where the suspect, upon stopping, opened fire on the Deputy Constable before fleeing into a nearby residence. As the complex situation intensified, Constables quickly cordoned off the area. A statement from Precinct 4 described that after a short standoff, the suspect was taken into custody. Meanwhile, the wounded Deputy Constable received emergency medical attention and was transported to a local hospital, the condition undisclosed.

The investigation is currently underway as law enforcement officials strive to meticulously piece together the events that led to the shooting. Residents were advised to avoid the area around Slashwood to allow investigators to proceed unimpeded.
