Bystander Fatally Shot Following Robbery at Cedar Creek Marina Restaurant in Mt. JulietSource: Google Street View

A tragic incident unfolded in the parking lot of Cedar Creek Marina, where a robbery at the on-site restaurant turned deadly, claiming the life of an innocent 27-year-old bystander. As detailed by the WSMV, the shooting occurred around midnight, not long after the armed suspects had coerced restaurant staff to unlock the cash safe. Police officers responded to the reported robbery location at 9120 Saundersville Road.

The aftermath of the crime left two staff members assaulted and the Mt. Juliet Police Department confirmed that the individuals have since been treated and released. According to WSMV, Kimmie Dunlay said, “I think this industry has suffered enough from COVID that to hear something of this nature only deters others from getting involved in it”. After fleeing the scene, and in a parking lot found crowded with vehicles, the perpetrators left behind the fatally wounded man, who despite efforts by officials, could not be revived.

As per The Tennessean, both the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office and Mt. Juliet Police Department are actively investigating the shooting that they believe to be connected to the earlier robbery at the popular lakeside spot.

Despite the severity of the incident, the boating community, generally perceived as tight-knit and secure, expressed their shock and distress at the intrusion of violence into a place known for leisure and camaraderie. Susan Schultz, a member of the Freedom Boat Club, told WKRN, "It’s just really sad that it happened," reiterating the belief that the area was safe. Police, working off leads and seeking information, are appealing to the public for any knowledge about a speeding vehicle or potential suspects that might have been noticed on Saundersville Road during the time of the incident.
