Chicago Man Arrested for Threatening "Military Precision" Mass Shooting at Lake County CourthouseSource: Lake County Sheriffs Office

A Chicago man has been arrested on charges of making a threat that suggested a "mass shooting with military precision" would occur at the Lake County Courthouse, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Daniel B. Pederson, has a history of similar convictions, including a previous threat made against the same courthouse back in 2016.

Daniel B. Pederson, who had been spotted by a security guard he had previously passed a threatening note to, was arrested on June 27 after the guard recognized him and tipped off Chicago Police. According to WGN-TV, the original threat was passed on June 14 to a security guard at a restaurant on Chicago's Riverwalk.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office indicated that the note contained threats directed not only toward the courthouse but also against a Lake County judge and a Chicago police officer who is part of an FBI task force. After being taken into custody by the Chicago Police Department, Pederson was handed over to the Lake County Sheriff's Warrants Team and is now being held at the Lake County Jail.

Pederson has officially been charged with one felony count of threatening a public official, the Lake County Sheriff's Office stated. With the gravity of the situation being recognized, the Lake County State’s Attorney's Office plans on filing a petition to detain Pederson, as obtained by FOX 32 Chicago. Additional charges, the office claims, are possible as the investigation unfolds.

While the case remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, no further details have been released at this moment. This story is developing, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
