Yesterday afternoon in Escondido, a routine traffic stop swiftly escalated into a pursuit that resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a firearm and drugs. As reported by the Escondido Police Department, officers attempted to pull over a vehicle around 1:30 p.m. near Rose St. and Oak Hill Dr. due to an equipment violation. The situation quickly intensified when the driver chose to not merely stop but to lead officers on a chase before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot in the 1500 block of Kingston Dr.

A passenger in the vehicle also attempted to escape, discarding a pistol in the process. Both suspects were quickly apprehended by the authorities. The subsequent search of the vehicle unveiled a startling find—a SCAR-17 rifle, ammunition, and over 8 grams of methamphetamine.
