Fairfield Police Intensify Hunt for Suspect after Attempted Assault on StudentsSource: Google Street View

Authorities in Fairfield are on high alert following an attempted assault on two 12-year-old students yesterday morning. According to an alert from the Fairfield Police Department, the children were approached by an unidentified man while walking on the bike path between Meadowlark Drive and East Tabor Avenue at some point between 8:30 am and 9:00 am. The suspect, described as a dark-skinned Hispanic male wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans, was reportedly riding a gray BMX-style bike at the time of the incident.

Despite the attacker's efforts, the students managed to fend him off and promptly reported the confrontation to school staff upon reaching the campus. The incident, now under investigation by the Special Victims Unit (SVU), has prompted police to use "every available officer and resource" in the search for the assailant, "to include our motorcycle officers and drones," the department said.

Fairfield PD has increased patrols and surveillance around local school routes as the search intensifies. The department urges anyone with potential information or who observed an individual fitting the suspect’s profile near the scene this morning to come forward. Tips can be directed to the Fairfield Police Department at (707) 428-7300, with the specific request to select option 8 when prompted.

Additional support is being provided by the school to help the students cope with the traumatic experience, ensuring their access to necessary mental health resources. While the investigation is still "active and ongoing," updates will likely become available once more details can be confirmed by authorities. Media inquiries have been directed to Public Information Officer Jennifer Brantley, who can be reached at the aforementioned number or via email at [email protected].
