A fatal incident unfolded earlier today on an Interstate 95 exit ramp in Fort Lauderdale, where a 43-year-old Lauderdale Lakes man was struck and killed. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) stated that a white Cadillac SUV, going southbound and about to exit onto eastbound I-595, hit the pedestrian, according to NBC Miami.

The driver of the SUV reportedly tried to avoid the collision, but the pedestrian was ultimately hit by the vehicle's front right corner. FHP informed, "The pedestrian, a 43-year-old man from Lauderdale Lakes, was “struck by the front right corner of the vehicle as [the driver] attempted to avoid him." Emergency protocols were quickly initiated as the driver pulled onto the shoulder to urgently call 911. When troopers arrived, they proceeded to administer CPR to the victim at the scene until EMS took over and transported him to Broward Health Medical Center, as reported by NBC Miami.

The intersection, typically bustling in the early hours, was transformed into a somber investigation scene with the southbound exit ramp closed off by authorities, causing significant disruptions. As per NBC Miami report, "The southbound exit ramp of I-95 to eastbound I-595 will be closed until further notice." With the ramp closure, drivers were advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.

The tragic circumstances were complicated by the unclear reasons as to why the victim was present on the roadway. Authorities have withheld the victim's identity pending notification of kin. As stated by an FHP news release and reported by Local 10, the driver "was checked for signs of impairment and none were found."
