Lauderhill Middle School Teacher Charged with Possession of Child Sexual Abuse MaterialSource: Broward Sheriff's Office

A Broward County middle school teacher, Quinton Isaiah Womack Wedlaw, has been arrested on 10 felony charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material. The 25-year-old teacher at Parkway Middle School in Lauderhill was taken into custody by Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies after an alert from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children pointed to material uploaded to a Google account, as reported by Local10.

According to an arrest report that WSVN received, the investigation unearthed more than 25 files of explicit content involving minors on various devices, one of which coupled with a selfie, that linked Womack Wedlaw to the account. In the meanwhile, Womack Wedlaw, also a camp counselor at Reverend Samuel Delevoe Memorial Park was fired from his summer position.

Following the arrest, a Broward County Public Schools spokesperson said, “The District and Parkway Middle School leadership are aware of this individual’s arrest. Due to summer break, he is not currently working at the school. For the upcoming school year, he will be reassigned away from the school and students pending the outcome of the case,” as NBC Miami reports.

Womack Wedlaw's appearance before a judge was detailed in an article by Local10, where the prosecutors emphasized the severity of the charges, noting his employment in environments around children. They contended that the nature of his work made the allegations particularly unsettling. The judge, acknowledging the magnitude of the charges, set the bond at $200,000 and included strict conditions such as no contact with children, banned access from schools, parks, and camps, as well as being barred from internet use pending trial.

Community reactions to Womack Wedlaw's arrest have been one of shock, especially from those who interacted with him through his roles at school and the summer camp. “I mean, yes, of course, it is nerve-racking,” a parent picking up her children told WSVN. Womack Wedlaw, who has made the bond with the condition he is to be monitored electronically, waits to see how the legal system will process the disturbing allegations against him.
