A five-year-old boy has died following a drowning incident at a residential pool in Miami-Dade County, authorities confirmed. The tragic event took place on Thursday evening in the Richmond West neighborhood, according to Local 10 News report.

Officials were called to the scene near the 14000 block of Southwest 168th Terrace shortly before 7:40 p.m. Miami-Dade Police units arrived in response to the emergency, alongside Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. The boy, whose identity has not been released, was discovered in a critical condition after being found in the pool. Using a helicopter, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue airlifted the young victim to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead following arrival at the hospital.

"Despite best efforts from first responders, he was pronounced dead upon arrival," a statement obtained by WSVN detailed. The news has left the community reeling, and detectives are currently assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident, including any potential charges that may arise from the event.

Homicide detectives from the Miami-Date Police Department are investigating the boy’s death, as confirmed by Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the department. "Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced deceased," Rodriguez told Local 10 News in a statement.
