Miami-Dade County Breaks Ground on Phase II of Naranja Grand Affordable HousingSource: Google Street View

As housing challenges continue to draw attention across the nation, Miami-Dade County is not standing by idly. On July 11, officials, including Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kionne McGhee, will take a definitive step towards addressing the local affordable housing shortfall with the official groundbreaking for Phase II of the Naranja Grand development in South Dade. The event, making a tangible stride towards mitigating the housing crisis, is slated to begin at 10 a.m. at a site earmarked to transform into a community resource for income-qualifying residents.

The forthcoming Naranja Grand II building, encompassing eight stories, is designed to provide 200 apartments aimed at households earning at or below 22, 30, 60, and 70 percent of the area median income. Per details released by Miami-Dade County, the development boasts a variety of amenities including a swimming pool and a fitness center certain to be welcomed by future residents. Additionally, the complex underscores an emphasis on sustainability with features like energy-efficient lighting and appliances in alignment with the National Green Building Standard.

Phase I of this large-scale housing initiative, focusing on residents 55 and older, commenced construction back in January of this year. Naranja Grand II builds on this foundation, extending the concept of affordable living spaces to a wider demographic. According to an official Miami-Dade government announcement, "Leasing will begin in the summer of 2025," with the expected completion of the second phase by the end of that same year.

Alongside Mayor Levine Cava and Commissioner McGhee, other key figures set to appear at the groundbreaking include Alex Ballina, District 9 Commission, as well as Matthew Rieger, Director of Housing and Community Development. Representing the private sector, Nicole and Roosevelt Bradley from Elite Equity Development, and Housing Trust Group's President and CEO, will also partake in this significant step for affordable housing.
